In compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, governing codes and standards and following Providence Care policies and procedures, the Equipment Maintenance Mechanic will use a wide variety of skills and knowledge to keep the hospital’s mobile equipment (excluding biomedical equipment) safe, reliable and in good repair.

 

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • 2 years of related experience in maintaining and repairing equipment in a healthcare environment is required.
  • Completion of Secondary School Diploma with courses specializing in the technical/trades stream.
  • Valid Ontario Trades Certification (e.g. facility maintenance mechanic, industrial millwright mechanic, or other trades qualification acceptable to the facility) will be an asset
  • A combination of related education, training and demonstrated experience in a hospital preventative and repair maintenance environment, may be considered

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintain current and up-to-date the equipment databases including the computerized maintenance management system and remote tracking and locating system.
  • Receive new equipment, enter data into the computerized maintenance management system including frequency and type of inspections required; store user manuals in an organized filing system; install necessary asset and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags as required.
  • Respond promptly to customer requests for equipment delivery to the unit from the central equipment depot, or to requests for service of broken equipment. Perform or arrange for pick-up and delivery of equipment to or from requesting department in a timely manner.
  • Plan and estimate labour and material requirements for assigned work, determining work methods and completing work according to schedule and departmental standards of quality, as assigned
  • Inspect, maintain and repair hospital equipment including but not limited to patient lifts, beds, wheelchairs, stretcher equipment, and wheel maintenance, as required, etc.
  • Inspect, maintain and repair appliances including but not limited to refrigerators, freezers, commercial kitchen equipment, clothes washers, clothes dryers and ice machines, etc.
  • Inspect, maintain and repair housekeeping equipment including but not limited to floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, etc.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment utilized in good working order, returning to appropriate storage area and advising supervisor of replacement or repair requirements; takes inventory of tools as required.
