As a Certified Health Information Management Professional (HIMP), you will be responsible for the handling and tracking of written and verbal requests for release and access of personal health information and report daily patient bed occupancy to the Ministry of Health. Code data from client records for qualitative and quantitative analysis, for use in statistical reporting, research and peer review. Perform all duties with strict protection of confidential information in accordance with all relevant legislation and hospital policies and procedures and assist in safeguarding the integrity, confidentiality and security of personal health information.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
- Graduate of an approved program in Health Information Management, Diploma or Degree
- Certified Health Information Management Professional required
- Active Member of Canadian Health Information Management Association
- Minimum of two years working in a similar role in a health care facility; or one year minimum recent experience performing a similar role in a hospital environment within Patient Records and Registration department
Position Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the handling of written and verbal requests for release of personal health information in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act; Mental Health Act; Public Hospitals Act; Substitute Decisions Act; Health Care Consent Act, and hospital policies
- Required to respond to all request for release of information of Personal Health Information from physicians, clinicians, program areas, patient care units, and outside agencies such as College of Nurses, College of Physicians and Surgeons etc.
- Maintain an electronic tracking for all requests and responses for Personal Health Information on an on-going basis
- Liaise with Finance and prepares invoicing as appropriate for billable requests related to release of Personal Health Information
- Manually track and update the electronic patient care system related to Mental Health Legal Status of patients/clients
- Receive and review all legal forms including Forms 3, 4, 5, and 33; Power of Attorneys, Consents to Access and Disclosure. Examine to ensure the forms are completed and legally valid, signed, dated, witnessed, and where applicable signed by the Officer in charge
