Acting as an effective team member, the Environmental Services Attendant (ESA) provides a clean, safe and attractive environment for the staff, clients and visitors of the Providence Care Hospital.  The ESA is responsible to perform their duties in a manner that supports and implements the policies, procedures, routines, values, goals and objectives of the Environmental Services Department and Providence Care, including goals for high quality services and a positive work environment .

 

Skills and Qualification Required:

  • High School Diploma (or grade 12 equivalency)
  • Basic knowledge of industrial/commercial cleaning procedures and understanding of the hospital environment and cleaning requirements and standards
  • Minimum six months of recent related experience working in similar sanitation/cleaning role; experience in healthcare environment, preferred
  • Demonstrated basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite of products, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet (i.e. Internet Explorer)

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • General Duties - Collecting/disposing of waste, including separating recyclable materials and disposal of biomedical waste; distribution of clean linen and collection of solid linen; operation of heavy duty cleaning equipment
  • Daily Duties - Damp-dusting, spot cleaning of walls/windows, dust and damp mopping of floors, vacuuming, waste removal, washroom cleaning and cleaning of isolation rooms
  • Thorough Cleaning Routines - High-dusting, comprehensive damp-dusting and floor cleaning, baseboard cleaning and  discharge cleaning of isolation rooms
  • Performs other duties such as stripping and refinishing of floors, washing walls/ceiling/windows, changing and cleaning curtains, replacing light bulbs, lifting/moving equipment and furniture, snow removal, community cleaning, operation of hospital vehicles, and operation of mechanical lifts
  • Identifies need to replenish supplies required to complete assigned work; completes order forms for cleaning supplies and communicates any related concerns with Service Manager in a timely fashion
  • Maintains record of project work completed and returns to Service Manager at the end of the shift
  • Participates in quality cleaning audit program and works to achieve acceptable standards of cleaning and maintenance of area assigned as outlined in the program
