Reporting to the Facility Coordinator the Facility Assistant ensures that services are provided throughout hospice house with the least possible disruption to the patients and families. The Facility Assistant will perform environmental cleaning to meet Infection Control requirements and Occupational Health and Safety standards. As an integral member of the hospice team, the Facility Assistant will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide high quality services and create a positive work environment. The Facility Assistant fulfills their duties in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values of Providence Care Centre.

 

Skills & Qualifications Required:

  • High School Diploma (or grade 12 equivalency)

  • Basic knowledge of industrial/commercial cleaning procedures and understanding of the health care environment cleaning requirements and standards

  • Experience working in a similar sanitation/cleaning role in a healthcare setting, preferred

  • Demonstrated basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite of products, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet (i.e. Internet Explorer)

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Follows established routines and schedules as specified

  • Uses assorted housekeeping equipment in performing various duties

  • Contributes to timely, consistent and quality cleaning of the premises, provides general thorough cleaning services, and follows department cleaning procedures as assigned

  • Performs daily duties such as damp-dusting, spot cleaning of walls/windows, dust and damp mopping of floors, vacuuming, collecting/disposing of waste and separating recyclable materials, washroom cleaning, and completes other routine tasks

  • Conducts terminal disinfection of patients’ rooms, ensuring that all patient rooms are prepared and ready for occupancy.

  • Performs other duties such as stripping and refinishing of floors, washing walls/ceiling/windows, changing and cleaning curtains, replacing light bulbs, lifting/moving equipment and furniture, snow removal, and operation of company vehicles.
