Reporting Pharmacy Manager, Pharmacy Operations Lead will be responsible for providing leadership and maintaining operational workflow to members of the Pharmacy team.  The Pharmacy Operations Lead will be responsible for maintaining the flow of operations within the dispensary and will work in association with  Professional Practice Leader and the Pharmacy Manager, to organize and coordinate improvements for the Pharmacy department.  In addition, the Pharmacy Operations Lead will act as a resource and subject matter expert when liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

The Pharmacy Operations Lead will provide pharmacy services consistent with the registered Pharmacy Technician classification and in accordance with the standard practices, morals and ethics of the Ontario College of Pharmacists and the Vision, Mission, Values and strategic directions of Providence Care. 

 

Skills and Qualifications Required: 

  • Current unrestricted registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists, Registered Pharmacy Technician (R.Ph.T.), or ability to obtain unrestricted registration within twelve months of start date in position
  • Experience in team leadership, projects and committees, preferred

 

Positions Responsibilities:

Pharmacy Team Leadership

  • Collaborates with the Director of Clinical Support Services and Human Resources in the development and implementation of profession-specific recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention strategies
  • Provides coaching and mentorship of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants in collaboration with Pharmacists
  • Participates in educational department and corporate training and development opportunities in order to enhance skills and knowledge and operational efficiencies
  • Coordinates the overall scheduling of staff in collaboration with the Director
  • Develops the staff meeting agendas and leads the meeting in collaboration with the Director

Pharmacy Department Operational Leadership

  • Oversees the functions and reports issues as required to the Director on matters pertaining to client prescriptions, ward stock, Narcotic and Controlled Drugs, Intravenous additive preparations, manufacturing and compounding as they relate to operations
  • Performs administrative functions related to drug distribution and cognitive pharmacy services, including problem identification and resolution, policy and procedure development and interpretation, implementation and evaluation of continuous quality improvement programs, records and documentation, and inventory control
  • Liaises with Nursing, Medical staff, and other departments in regard to availability of medications and other issues concerning medications, related policies and procedures and services provided by Pharmacy Department

Drug Distribution

  • Performs all technical functions of drug distribution
  • Enters and/or verifies medication orders in the clients’ electronic profile; generates medication labels; prepares new and refill individual client prescriptions (counting, pouring, weighing, measuring, mixing, re-packaging, labelling), in accordance with organization policy and procedure
