The Registered Dietitian serves as the representative in client care nutritional activities. The Dietitian will provide direct nutritional assessment and counseling to both in-patients and out-patients and assume responsibility for dietary program development and consultation, reassess priorities for involvement on a quarterly basis, and adapt activity to meet evolving needs of mental health clients. The Dietitian participates as a member of the inter-professional team in each program area to develop and implement various programs and activities such as cooking groups for clients, workshops for staff, and the prevention of chronic diseases and obesity among clientele.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition; equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered
- Completion of recognized Internship program
- Registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
- Membership in Dietitians of Canada, preferred
- Minimum one year experience as a clinical dietitian in a mental health or chronic care setting, preferred
Position Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nutrition care and education for individuals and groups
- Screens client nutritional status and develops appropriate care plans and interventions
- Assesses laboratory values and other pertinent medical data related to nutritional status
- Monitors the nutritional status of clients
- Counsels client and/or family or care giver on special nutritional requirements
- Provides technical guidance to and consults with other health care professionals (physician, nurse, pharmacist, social workers, etc.)
- Develops and delivers educational programs to hospital staff as required
